The Ute Meridian, also known as the Grand River Meridian, was established in 1880 to survey an Indian reservation for the Ute Indians along the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers in northern Colorado. The initial point for the Ute Meridian lies inside the boundaries of the Grand Junction Regional Airport, Grand Junction, Colorado at 39 06'23"N latitude, 108 31'59"W longitude. Survey Townships for this survey run both north and south of the Ute principal base line, and ranges were run both east and west of the Ute meridian. All townships and sections that border the Ute Meridian territory are fractional.
